DevOps Fundamentals in the Cloud

WEBVTT (Music) Hey, thank you so much for joining us. I'm your host, Lauren Deal, and I'll be your learner advocate as we go along, asking all the questions you probably have at home. But I am not alone. As you can see, I'm joined with Wes Bryan. So welcome in Wes. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Sure. I'm an edutainer here at ACI Learning, and I've been a technical instructor for about 15 years now, teaching a variety of topics, industry certifications from CompTIA, Microsoft as well, and a variety of different technologies, whether it comes to hardware and software. We talk about things like Windows, Microsoft, Server, Cloud, you name it. I have dabbled in some of it for sure. But one of the things that I really like is the fact that we're going to go down. As we go through this course, we're going to be looking at DevOps and how that applies, just the fundamentals of DevOps and how it applies to the Cloud. I'm really looking forward to being with you in this journey. Absolutely. He's a fantastic teacher. I'll be learning right along with you. So Wes, tell us a little bit about alongside me, who might be the perfect person to be learning with us. All right. Sure. So if you're taking, maybe you're sitting in front of a computer screen in a well-lit room answering questions. Well, this is going to be for you definitely. But keep in mind that you don't have to be necessarily seeking a certification exam. Keep in mind that if you are maybe getting into the industry, maybe you're already in the industry and you want to acclimate yourself to some of these technologies and just maybe familiarize yourself with some of these concepts, well, then it is going to be for you as well. However, I will tell you, there is a little bit of a prerequisite when we talk about this course. That's because we're going to be talking about how these technologies apply to the Cloud and DevOps fundamentals. We won't be spending a lot of time on foundational concepts like just basic computing environment and network communication technologies. That's something that you're going to have to bring to the table. Now, that doesn't mean that if you don't have those skills, you can't watch this course and you can't be successful. That's furthest from the truth. Just keep in mind that you're going to have to backfill some of those skills because it's going to be a little bit of assumed knowledge. We're not going to break down things like the TCP IP stack. You're going to have that under your belt when you come to the table. But pass that. It doesn't matter what your level of skill is. It will be available to you and you can be successful as well. I'm excited to learn and right alongside you, remember that Wes has all these notes that you can reference. Now, there are so many things that we're going to be covering in this. What are some of the things we weren't going to talk about? Okay, sure. At a high level, we're going to talk about things like the CI CD pipeline. We'll talk about things like continuous integration, continuous delivery, and how DevOps can help too. The variety of DevOps concepts can help to facilitate our development and operations. We're going to look at things like, for instance, source control, version control concepts, including things like Git and GitHub. We'll talk about the actual CI CD pipelines themselves, and we'll look at what they examine, what they look like, and we'll talk about some of the components and artifacts that are a result of the software development process. We'll also look at things like system integration. Because remember, when we might have existing systems within our on-premise infrastructure, we have to integrate them with Cloud Solutions. We'll talk a little bit about that. Then finally, we're going to talk about, and maybe we'll give you an insight into some of the tools that we use inside of a DevOps environment too. So at the end of the day, that's what we're going to talk about. We're going to talk about source control. We'll talk about CI CD pipelines and what that means for DevOps fundamentals. We'll look at system integration, and then finally the tools that help us facilitate DevOps operations. Boy, that's redundant. As you can tell, we're going to have a lot of fun and we're excited to have you join our journey together as we explore DevOps fundamentals in the Cloud.
