Azure Virtual Desktop Monitoring
Azure Virtual Desktop Monitoring Overview
The Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop Monitoring course helps prepare you for success when it comes to implementing Azure Virtual Desktop. Specifically, this course ensures you are ready to support the careful monitoring and maintenance of the Azure Virtual Desktop environment. This includes critical concepts like log collection, Azure Advisor, Azure Monitor, and more. This course also focuses on business continuity (BC) factors for your deployment.
For those interested in Microsoft Azure certification, this course helps you prepare for the Monitor and Maintain an Azure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure portion of the AZ-140 certification exam.

Welcome and thanks for
joining us for this overview
for Azure Virtual Desktop
Monitoring. Do I have that
right? I think I said the words
in the right order. I'll be
your host for this module,
functioning as a learner
advocate, asking the questions
that you might have at home.
I'm Sophie, this is Anthony,
and Anthony is going to be our
subject matter expert. Anthony,
if you don't mind, could you
tell us a little about
yourself? Sure. I've been
working with Microsoft Azure
since its inception and I have
been working with Windows
pretty darn close. I guess I'm
giving away my age right now.
But when I started supporting
Windows systems, it was Windows
3.1 as the client and none
other than Windows NT as the
server operating system.
Kind of interesting trivia
there that Microsoft didn't
always call Windows Server
Windows Server.
It started out as something
called Windows NT, and I do
believe it was new technology,
the NT that that stood for.
But today, couldn't wait to get
involved with Azure Virtual
Desktop. This is exciting
technology where we're going to
be bringing Windows to anyone
that needs it on any type of a
device. We're talking Windows
on a tablet, even Windows on a
phone. It's very, very
exciting, the Azure Virtual
Desktop technology. I couldn't
wait to put my skills to use
here in these modules. So who
exactly is this course intended
for? Like what skill level,
what type of person? Yeah.
This is anyone that has
anything to do with Azure
Virtual Desktop. As Sophie
alluded to with our title of
this module, we are going to be
monitoring the Azure Virtual
Desktop environment. So if your
job is initial setup, you're
going to be interested in
monitoring. If your job is
maintaining the environment,
you're going to be interested
in monitoring. I would say that
the only group that wouldn't be
interested in this module would
be those that are strictly
designing a deployment. But now
that I say that, even they
would want to peruse this
module because they want to
design the monitoring
capabilities. So I just cleared
that up for us. Anyone
interested in Azure Virtual
Desktop should really check out
this module. Is there any
prerequisite knowledge or
anything that we should know or
be familiar with before we jump
into this? Yes. I would say
definitely take a look at the
modules that Sophie and I have
created before this. Remember
how we broke this down from a
modular perspective for you.
It was all about designing and
deployment. Then we went in and
really looked at identity and
security. Then we went in and
looked at user settings and
applications. All of that stuff
that we just described can be
monitored. So if you are not
familiar with how apps are
deployed, or you're not
familiar with how you would add
security to Azure Virtual
Desktop, I would highly
recommend you drop back,
that's kind of weird way to say
it. Just slide over and check
out those other modules.
It's not like you're doing
something lesser than this.
It's just topics that you
should be familiar with before
you go in and try and monitor
the environment. Now,
without giving too much
away, can we maybe get a little
bit of a sneak peek as to what
we're going to learn in this
module? Yeah. So
here's the great news.
We know that there are a ton of
sophisticated monitoring
capabilities that are inside
the Azure Cloud.
One of the benefits that you
get when you do your Virtual
Desktop infrastructure, your
VDI through Azure, is that as
you might guess, there's this
marriage between the monitoring
tools that are in Azure and
your Virtual Desktop
environment. For instance, one
of our favorite Azure tools is
called Azure Monitor, and Azure
Monitor is going to be totally
aware of Virtual Desktop
infrastructure technology
called AVD, and it's ready to
help you with making sure you
are monitoring it intensely.
The other things that we'll be
talking about too, by the way,
include things like, "All
right, what would you do if you
suddenly find out that, oh my
gosh, poor Sophia, her machine
is running very poorly." Well,
we're going to talk about how
we can react
in those situations as well.
Well, that's good because my
machine does run poorly
sometimes. So it'll be good to
know what I can do to fix that.
But I think that's going to do
it for this overview. Got to
get familiar with what we
should know going in, and what
we can expect in this module as
well. So Anthony, thank you for
walking us through that.
My pleasure. Thank you for
joining us for this overview.
We'll see you in the course.
