[MUSIC] Hi, and welcome to another great new series here on ITProTV, I'm Jo Peacock. And in this series we are actually covering the DevOps Professional Certification that is accredited by the EXIN Examining Board. So let me just tell you a little bit more about what we're actually going to cover during this series. And what's going to be required for you to be able to sit the exam at the end of the series. Well, you've heard the word DevOps, it's been mentioned quite a lot in sort of current parlance. What does DevOps mean? Well, DevOps is about the collaboration that needs to exist between our development teams and our operation teams. They're the obvious ones, but also our QA teams, our quality assurance teams, and our security teams as well. Now in this particular series, what we're going to do is we're going to explore the concepts of DevOps. We're going to look at collaboration, and we're going to very, very briefly look at collaboration tools. And a framework behind the sort of collaboration methods that you might want to implement within your organization. Now I say might, and I also say a very brief look at a framework as well, because we're going to take a brief look at those tools. And we're going to discuss some of those processes, but DevOps intrinsically is a mindset. It's a way of thinking, it's a way of working, it's not prescriptive in any way. What it refers to, is being more efficient and more effective in your way of working within your environment. And in order to be more efficient and more effective at enabling value within your organization. Then we need to be more collaborative in the way that we work. So DevOps looks at the principles, or the DevOps Professional rather, looks at the principles behind that collaboration. Why we need collaboration, and how we can go about achieving collaboration. Now I will tell you that we do have lots of other series in our library. And certainly we will have that as an expanding arena within our library for DevOps. So let me explain to you a little bit about the difference between them. Here within our framework section, within our governance section of our course library, we are going to look at what DevOps is all about. Why you would need DevOps, and how to go about achieving a collaborative environment. Now we also have other series that lie within our more technical arenas within our course library. And that's where my colleague, Justin, will take you through a lot of the tools that are involved in a DevOps environment. So he specifically will be looking at collaboration tools and we have series that are coming up at the time of us recording this particular series. Certainly such as AWS, I know that Justin's planning on recording this series on POP IT and Sybil, etc. So Justin will be concentrating on the tools, whereas I'll be concentrating on the, well, why are we doing this? What is it that we're actually trying to achieve with DevOps, and Justin will be looking at the how we do it. How we can actually work in a DevOps environment and what type of tools we would actually be using in that DevOps environment. Now I did say I was going to tell you a little bit about the prerequisites for the course. And one of the prerequisites for the examination, the DevOps Professional examination, is at least a minimum of 60 hours study effort. So to facilitate your 60 hours, I've got a couple of recommendations for you, they're recommended by the examining board. And those recommendations are the DevOps Handbook, as you can see I've got a copy here for you. The DevOps Handbook which is being produced by Gene Kim, Jez Humble, Patrick Debois and John Willis. Now this is on the recommended reading list, and you will find that the examination. That you will take at the end of this course, will be based on the material that we're covering in this course. And also the material in the DevOps Handbook, as well as material that you will find in this book. Which is Continuous Delivery, also by Jez Humble and somebody by the name of David Farley as well. So both of those books are not just recommended reading, but they are also required for the DevOps Professional certification. So as far as the exam is concerned, you will have a sample paper in your downloadable materials. And that sample paper is based on the syllabus that we will be covering during this series. As well as and the content that's available in these two books. So as part of your 60 hours study period, then I would definitely recommend that you read those books. This particular series also complements other series in our library, series such as Agile. I would definitely recommend your Agile Fundamentals series, and I would also recommend an ITIL Foundation series as well. Because if we're talking about collaboration between development teams and operational teams and quality assurance. Then you need to understand how these teams work. And what better way of understanding how they work than by looking at how the development teams work in an Agile environment. And how our operation teams will work in a service management environment. So by all means, check out those two series as well, the Agile Fundamentals and also our ITIL Foundation. So I'm gonna ask you then, to join us in our new DEvOps Professional series. That way you're going to find out a lot more about why we need DevOps, why the world is talking about DevOps right now. And also how you can achieve true synergy and collaboration with a DevOps environment. So join me, Jo Peacock, as we explore the DevOps Professional Certification in our new series. [MUSIC]
