Manage Windows Failover Clusters

Overview

Dive into the critical world of high availability and disaster recovery with our upcoming course on managing Windows Failover Clusters. You’ll learn the art of implementing and configuring failover clusters to ensure your services remain uninterrupted, no matter the crisis. Also, you’ll explore the nitty-gritty of Failover Clustering management, from proactive health monitoring to seamless workload balancing, ensuring your systems remain resilient in the face of failure. But that's not all — you will also dive into the complexities of Storage Spaces Direct, Microsoft's innovative storage solution that combines cost-effectiveness with stellar performance. Learn how to harness this powerful feature to transform your local storage into highly scalable, software-defined storage. Whether you're guarding against data center failures or anticipating the unforeseen, our course will equip you with the knowledge to maintain business continuity with confidence.

WEBVTT Welcome and thanks for joining us for this overview for the course on managing Windows failover clusters. I'm going to be your host for this course. I'm an edutainer here at ACI Learning. My name is Sophie Goodwin, and I'm going to be acting as a learner advocate for you all. So asking questions here that you might have at home. I am certified in cybersecurity through ISC2, but managing Windows failover clusters is a new topic to me. So I will be learning right along with you. Of course, to my right over here is going to be our subject matter expert for this course, Charles Pluta. Charles, tell us a little about yourself. Thanks Sophie. Hey everyone. So yeah, my name is Charles Pluta. I'm a Microsoft certified trainer. Been in the IT industry for about 15 years now, and a certified trainer for 10 of those. Been focused on Cloud recently. In this course, we're focused on, as Sophie mentioned, the failover clustering. So failover clusters has been a technology available in Windows Server probably for about 20 years now. So it's not a new technology, it's not a new service, but there's definitely some new concept in a hybrid scenario which we'll tie into by extending some of our clusters to Azure, and then getting those set up and manage with the cluster manager, and using the Windows Admin Center as well. So those are a few of the different topics we'll be discussing in this module. It's all about failover clustering, and how to manage it and connect it into Azure. Okay, so that's kind of an overview as to what we're going to be looking at in this course. Now, as far as any prerequisite knowledge, I know I'm new to this, so is there anything that I or learners at home should definitely kind of have in mind already before we start this course? Sure, yeah, so at least in terms of what we're going to be talking about, we're going to be focused on kind of the cluster and the cluster management itself. There are some prerequisites for having the cluster environment. So there's some storage requirements, some networking requirements, obviously just the servers that are set up, the virtual machines that are running Windows Server, and then if you're going to be using Azure, the Azure subscription, the resource groups, the permissions and things that need to exist in Azure, all of those are kind of outside the scope of what we're going to be talking about. And so if you're not familiar with just some general Windows Server management or general cloud management, I would recommend that you go through something like the Azure fundamentals or something first before jumping into this module. All right, so we are going to be looking at kind of implementing, configuring, and then just generally managing these clusters. I pitched some different names for this module, Ghost Clusters, Clusters Last Stand, but none of them stuck. So this module is Managing Windows Failover Clusters. Thank you for joining us for this overview, and we'll see you in the course. (upbeat music)
