WEBVTT Welcome and thanks for joining us for this overview on managing identities and compliance using Intune. I'll be your host for this course, Sophie Goodwin. I'm going to be functioning as a learner advocate for you. So I'll be asking questions along the way. For those of you watching at home that have questions that you want to ask as well, and this is all new to me, so I will be learning right along with you. Our subject matter expert for the course, Wes Bryan. Wes, tell us a little bit about yourself. Oh, sure. So I've been a technical instructor for about 15 years now, and I teach a lot of the industry-wide certifications. I teach a variety of CompTIA certifications. Microsoft Certified Trainer, I teach taught, I should say, the MCSA tracks and stuff. So I've definitely taught and been inside of the Microsoft environment. So I definitely look forward to getting into some hands-on in this series and helping you out with some of the products that we're going to be talking about. He's the captain, I guess that makes me the skipper or the first mate or something. I don't know, I don't know about terms. So in this course, we're talking about managing identities and compliance using Intune. So besides the obvious of what's in the title, what are we going to be learning in this course? Okay, sure. So we're going to be talking about, when we talk about managing compliance, we have devices in that we want to give access to company resources with these devices, but we want to make sure that we can control things like their security settings, whether pins, if they're using a password, do they have the current updates. We want to be able to control how they have access, in order to do that, what we do is we implement compliance policies. So we're going to learn how to create and implement these compliance policies, but we're not going to stop there. We'll look at how we can manage them. We'll look how we can leverage conditional access that is in Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure AD technology, and we can actually utilize conditional access and attach them to compliance policies as well and then we'll also show you how to monitor and troubleshoot, right? Because we don't just implement compliance policies and walk away from them, we have to make sure that they are accomplishing the business needs as well as if there are issues and we troubleshoot them. So that's like the compliance side, right? There's a lot to it that we're going to be doing there, but the other thing we're going to do is we're going to be looking at managing identities and there's a lot of processes, a lot of actions that go into managing identities. So we're going to talk about user authentication. We'll talk about groups inside of Windows environments. We're going to talk about something known as RBAC, and if you are familiar with IT, we always need acronyms, right? So we'll talk about role-based access control and how that affects us as well as joining and registering devices to our Azure infrastructure and again, what's called Microsoft Entra ID today as well. And then we'll also talk about things like the local administrative password solutions and the variety of ways that we can actually deploy that. So for myself and for learners that are watching who maybe this is new to them, this is our first foray into this. Is there any prerequisite knowledge or anything we need to bring to the table going into this course? I would have a recommendation but not requirement. So I'll state it that way. I would say it's recommended that if you come to the table and you want to learn in this course that you do have a strong foundational knowledge in the Windows operating system and working around a Windows environment. I don't mean you have to be a desktop engineer in order to do this, but we're going to go to the Windows start menu and I would hope you know what the start menu is. When we say the taskbar, when we say the desktop, you should be understand, right? We're not going to go into the specifics of an introductory Windows course, right? The other thing too, you have to be aware of the TCP IP networking stack. We got to understand networking. We're not going to be talking about the OSI model and talking, what does the header look like? But you do have to know basic network communications. That's going to be important. And I would say you have to have a familiarity with the Azure based cloud systems. That's really what I would say to bring to the table. Is it a requirement? No, it's not a requirement. But keep in mind, we're not going to spend time on the things that are assumed knowledge at this point. So I would say that if you don't have that information, while it's not required, you might have some additional study that you have to do that's maybe not covered inside of this course. So remember Windows Active Directory environment, have a familiarity around the Azure interface and then we'll help supply some of the familiarity during the course. Well, now that I have an idea of what's kind of recommended to know going into this course and some of the things we're going to be learning, I feel a lot more prepared to jump into managing identities and compliance using Intune. So thank you for walking us through this West and thank you for joining us for this overview. We'll see you in the course.
