WEBVTT
(upbeat music) - Welcome in,
I'm your host Lauren Deal and
I'll be your learner advocate
as we go along, asking all the
questions that you may have at
home.
And in this section, we're
gonna be talking about network
operations and we have the best
person here to talk about it.
Welcome to the show, Anthony.
- Thank you so much. Yeah,
my name's Anthony Sequeira and
I'm super excited for this
section of content
and we are gonna make it fun
for you. Lauren and I are gonna
do that. This is an area where
we start talking about things
like organizational procedures
and documents and a lot of
times this can be very dry.
We're gonna make it fun,
so we're glad you're here.
And also I don't want you to be
thinking that this domain will
just be that kind of content.
We will talk about really cool
technologies like network
monitoring, like operating the
network with tools like DHCP
and DNS and using a great time
protocol. So there will be
pragmatic stuff we'll be
hitting. -
We're gonna be digging into
it and the neat thing about
understanding this from
Anthony's perspective, Anthony,
you have quite the background
in this, don't you? - Yeah,
yeah, I've really been focused
in on networking
since 1996. And it's so
funny to say that now because
time's been racing for me so
quickly that I feel like I've
been in this industry for four
years and then someone will
point out to me, no dummy,
you're coming up on 30 years.
So it's just amazing to think
time has really flown. And
I guess the fact that I'm so
old is gonna benefit us because
with a lot of these
technologies, I'm gonna be able
to tell you kind of the history
and the generations and
different iterations we've had
of tech. - One of the things
I'd like to draw your attention
to, we'll be talking about in
this section is IPv4 versus
IPv6 in some areas. So we're
really gonna be able to see
how things have evolved when
it comes to network operations.
- That's exactly what I was
gonna say, the evolution of how
tech has changed. And you're
gonna kind of hold on as we
drive through the history of
that. But also, Anthony,
I'm kind of new to
networking. And so I might not
be the ideal candidate. Who
would be the ideal candidate
for this? - Yeah, you know,
really, ideally, it is
someone with their A plus
certification that would be
right at home here. But let me
make this clear, a lot of
students that are watching this
have really the A plus
equivalent knowledge. So if you
know your way around PCs and
servers and kind of, you know,
cabling media and have a good
sense for wireless, and you're
competent when it comes to
basic technology, well,
welcome. That means you
essentially have the A plus
level of knowledge and that
will serve you well here.
Notice there are no massive
like requirements of some big
vendor certification or
something like that. Network
plus type of content,
networking, general networking
type of content. One of the
things we love about it is once
you're proficient with a PC,
you're ready to jump right in.
-
Okay, well, I'm feeling
excited about jumping right in.
So why don't you say we jump
right into our first episode
for network operations. Click
