[MUSIC]
Hello everyone, and
welcome to Office Pro TV.
My name is Vaughan Smith and
I'm going to be your guide to
the wonderful world of Outlook 2016.
In this overview presentation, we're
gonna go over what exactly are we gonna
be covering in this series,
who is this for?
What are some other things I need
to know about before I get started?
And any extra little information
you want to provide for me.
That would be me providing for you.
[LAUGH] What are we going to
be covering in this show?
We're gonna be talking about the basic
introduction to what is email?
And what does it mean when they say SMTP?
And what is a server,
what is all this terminology?
Because that's really the name of
the game to really get started.
And to really feel comfortable knowing
what you're talking about when you're,
well, talking about email.
That is one of the things that
Outlook is well known for.
And we're going to be sending and
receiving emails,
going through formatting our messages.
Advanced functions of our options
that we can add in our emails, and
everything you can know about for
emailing other people.
We also have the section in Outlook for
calendar, we'll make sure we're organized.
We're gonna be adding appointments and
meetings.
We're also gonna be sharing our
calendars with other people.
Contacts, that's a huge thing
in our industry with an office.
You need to know who you're talking to and
having those business cards on hand to
be able to virtually hand out to people.
We'll be covering all of those different
topics within our context area.
Tasks and Notes,
we wanna make sure we stay on task.
I love a to do list, and I love to
cross that off so we can go ahead and
do that virtually as well through Outlook.
And add little sticky notes here and
there to just I have a note for our self.
In the wonderful world of groups,
working in collaboration that's of course
what Office365 is really kind
of wants to get in with you.
They wanna be able to give you
all the different tools for
you to collaborate as a group.
And so you can do that right
here through Outlook and
not even have to hopefully
contact your IT person.
Who is this for?
This is for all Office users.
And when I say Office,
I'm not necessarily always referring
to the product of Microsoft Office.
If you're in a working environment,
whether it's in a large organization or
a small organization,
using Outlook is going to be like the
lynch pin in all different organizations.
Big and small to keep you organized, and
to keep you communicating
with other people.
This starts from the very,
very beginning of what is an email and
what is a server like I
said in that introduction.
It goes all the way to the advanced
features of going through the options
within Outlook talking about some higher,
if you wanna say level topics to really be
able to maximize the use of this product.
What do I need to know
before I get started?
Not much.
If you've never use Outlook before
that's fine.
Now if you've had familiarity with some
other Office products may be you know Word
really well or used Excel really well.
Maybe you're coming over from using Google
or Yahoo or some Internet based email.
And you're now required to use Outlook
that can be some great help for
you to be able to get
somewhat of your familiarity.
But if you've never used it
before this is the show for you.
Knowing some of those basic windows,
like when to right click,
double clicking, your windows operating
system, where is the start button.
Those are some things that would be
prerequisite for this particular show.
Any extras,
well there's always other options
I might show you to do a specific
function in outlook by clicking a button.
But someone might come, do you know that
you could right click on that or do you
know if you do a triple loop and stand on
your head you could do the same thing too.
Yes, that is true there are lots of
different was to do the same thing in any
product and outlook is none the different.
Updates happen,
yes these products update all the time.
And so at the time your watching this show
there might have been a update that there
is a new button or
a new feature that is not covered in here.
Well that's because they're always doing
that with your Office365 subscription,
that's the beauty of having a subscription
based product is that your constantly
getting those updates.
I don't have all the answers for you but
there is the wide world of internet out
there for you to search for your answers.
Microsoft Office support websites they
really help you and they've shown us with
each ones of these episodes do have a lot
of references to those particular sites.
That Microsoft is not the only people
that know about their products.
So definitely go ahead and
search that Internet to find that answer
that you're looking for, that's what I do.
Every server is different,
every organization is different.
And every organization has different
administrative settings, and access,
and privileges, and group policies.
And we can start talking techie but
everybody is different.
So if there's something that I show in an
episode that you're like you click on it.
And like I don't even have
that option it's grayed out.
Talk to your IT people there might be
a reason of why you can't do that.
And of course above all
have fun with this.
I know it can get frustrating of not
knowing why it's doing something or
not doing something I
experience it all the time.
But in the grand scheme of
things just keep an open mind,
try to have fun with it.
Because once you get familiar I think
you can know how to use a product.
Once you know something it
becomes a lot more enjoyable.
So with that I hope you have a great time
in this episode, and I'll see you soon.
