VMware VCP-DCV (Updated for vSphere 7)

VMware VCP-DCV (Updated for vSphere 7) Overview
This course takes you from introductory to advanced VMware vSphere management skills. Starting with the knowledge required to install and configure, you will also develop the advanced skills needed to manage and maintain a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure. You will explore the features that build a foundation for a truly scalable infrastructure, and discuss when and where these features have the greatest effect. This course prepares you to administer a vSphere infrastructure for an organization of any size using vSphere 7.0, which includes VMware ESXi 7.0 and VMware vCenter Server 7.0.

You're watching ITPro TV. [MUSIC] Hey everybody, welcome to VMware VCP-DCV (Update for vSphere 7). I'm your host Mike Roderick and with me is Mr. Adam Gordon. Hello, everybody. So Adam, tell me a little bit about what we're gonna learn in this course. We're gonna take a look at the knowledge base associated with the VCP-DCV exam, the data center virtualization exam is what we're focused on. All of the content that you wanna know about all the cool features, capabilities, services. And all of that stuff associated with how to set up, manage and maintain a data center at scale using VMware products. Sounds like a lot of information really excited. How are we gonna break this up? So we've got ten distinct areas we're gonna focus on kinda breaking out the knowledge into bite-size areas that we can really drill down on, spend time on, examine in depth. And along with Mike really tell some compelling stories to you about how all this technology works, how it comes together, kinda things you look to do both in the real world as well as preparation for the exam. Areas like the software defined datacenter and how technologies like containers are really becoming very important as we look at those kind of capabilities. We're gonna talk about virtual machines, how we can set them up, how we can configure them, manage them, perhaps even automate that process at scale. We'll take a look at vCenter itself, the vCenter Server Appliance, really talk about some of the new capabilities and features that are there. We've moved away from vCenter as a deployable application running in Windows, is now only a hardware appliance. And we'll take a look at that and talk about the implications of that for architecture and how you're gonna approach deployment. We'll take a look at configuring and monitoring and maintaining a virtual networks and virtual storage solutions that allow us to be able to provide the underlying fabric that we need in our data centers as we rack and stack infrastructure using hosts. But then also virtualized elements to be able to maintain our infrastructure and provide that at scale capability that virtualization is relied on, really to not only use, but to be able to scale on demand if necessary. We'll also take a look at virtual machine management, how we can automate and really, at scale, use things like templating, cloning. And the ability to be able to not only work with virtual machines, but envision how we can transport them and move them around to keep them out of harm's way. While also keeping them safe and secure, and make them available either highly available or through fault tolerance with zero downtime, ensure continuity of operations. We'll take a look at resource management and monitoring, really scaling out our capabilities to understand the health of those virtual machines, as well as how we can manage them. We'll take a look at vSphere clusters, looking at host clusters at scale. As well as VSAM, and how we can use a VSAM cluster to be able to find storage scalability. And finally, we'll focus on a new element of the vSphere experience in vSphere 7, the Lifecycle Manager, really replacing this older idea of VUM, VMware Update Manager. And how we can do patch management, how we can securely operate our virtual machines with the latest updates that VMware or perhaps even some other third party authorized providers are putting out for us. As well as upgrading our VMware Tools and our VMware hardware levels. So we're gonna take a look at all of that. And in addition, tell some stories, we'll take a look at how things work, we'll explore the capabilities. And of course, as always, we're gonna have a lot of fun doing all that. I'm excited, and Adam, you said there's also a certification associated with this? There is, so the VCP-DCV certification, the data center virtualization certification is exactly what we're focused on. It is the VCP-DCV with a year designation now. So every year that designation changes doesn't mean the content is necessarily changed. It just means that VMware is moved to a model where they stamp those certifications by year, telling you and everybody else when you took and certified against that exam. But it does rotate through and as that knowledge base updates, we're always here to make sure you know the latest information to ensure your success. All right, and thanks for that quick overview there. I know, I'm excited, I think you're pretty excited. Hopefully everybody out there is excited as well. So stay tuned as we get started. See you soon. Thank you for watching ITPro TV. [MUSIC]
